Access to education has improved in the past decade for millions of children in Africa. But far too many of the world’s most disadvantaged children remain excluded from school, and many of the children in school do not learn the basic skills they need to lead productive lives. The main objective of the study was to find out the influence of free primary education (FPE) policy on quality education in public primary schools (PPS) in Nandi central sub County. The study was guided by the following research question: how does free primary education policy influence the quality of education in public primary schools in Nandi central sub County. The study employed human capital theory by Smith A (1996) and Human Rights Norms and Development Theory by Woodrow (2006). Mixed research design mainly sequential explanatory research design was used. A total target population of 60,700 was used to draw a sample comprising of 152 teachers’, 20 Head teachers, 20 chairpersons and 176 pupils all drawn from 20 schools giving sample size of 388. This was arrived at using stratified and systematic random sampling. The study used questionnaire, document analysis guide and observation guide to collect data. Descriptive statistics such as means and frequencies were used to summarize data in tables drawing conclusions. The findings of the study indicate that the enrolment before the introduction of the new policy of FPE was fairly low, physical infrastructure in most public schools were very inadequate since most construction was mostly facilitated by harambee. After the new policy of FPE in 2003, enrollment increased significantly in school. Physical infrastructure had fairly increased, mostly constructed by Constituency Development Fund (C.D.F). FPE gave vote head for repair and maintenance, but it does not fully cater construction of new physical infrastructure to cater for the growing number of pupil. The teacher-pupil ratio inadequate thus quality education compromised. It is evident that schools should come up with income generating activities, source for funds for instance from harambees and donors, build and renovate the existing physical infrastructure and come up with shift classes so as to deal with congestion in classes, government to employ more teachers to enhance quality education in Nandi Central sub county
