Police reforms in Kenya were initiated in 2009 to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and professionalism in the forces for the security and safety of people and their property. The purpose of this study was to determine the attitude of the police towards police training and recruitment reforms in Kenya. The study was guided by the following objectives: the attitude of the police towards the training reforms and to assess the attitude of the police towards the recruitment reforms. The study sampled two police stations within Nakuru Police Division. The study employed descriptive research design and targeted a population of 216 respondents made up of police officers and officers commanding stations. A sample size of 103 respondents was obtained using combination of purposive sampling and simple random sampling. Data were collected by the use of structured questionnaires for all junior police officers and oral interview schedules for commanding officers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and results were presented by use of frequency tables and figures. The study found that attitude towards training and recruitment reforms is positive and led to improved accountability in police service and boosted professionalism in their daily duties. These reforms focused on institutional, legal and policy that are necessary for transformation of the police force into professional, efficient and effective police service. Mechanisms and systems of checking, monitoring and evaluation of reforms implementation need to be in place. There should be long term need to invest in training, infrastructure and equipment for Kenya police service.
